Staff and members of the board of management at Ballyduff National School gathered at The Courtyard in Ferns recently to mark what truly is the end of an era for the school. Principal Patricia Sadlier was finishing up with the school after 11 years at the helm and is taking a role as administrative principal at Tara Hill NS. Meanwhile, vice-principal Mary Kelly was calling time on her career, retiring having taught the children of Ballyduff for the past 27 years.

Chairman of the board of management Fr Richard Redmond thanked the ladies for their hard work over the years and presented them with flowers and a voucher before they sat down for a special meal.

'They will both certainly be missed,' said Fr Redmond. 'Both women made a huge contribution to education at Ballyduff National School and we wish them all the best.'

Taking over in the role of principal at Ballyduff is Charleville native Lorcan Browne and he was happy to pick up some wisdom from Patricia and Mary before they moved on wishing him the very best.
