Director of services: We’re doing a lot of work on social housing
A lot of work is being done in terms of social housing in the Enniscorthy area. That's according to Director of Services Padraig O'Gorman who presented his monthly housing report to members of Enniscorthy Municipal District last week.
Mr O'Gorman said that there has been a 'lot of activity' in the district recently and that he would be hopeful that in excess of 100 social housing units will be built in the coming year to 18 months.
Mr O'Gorman said that progress was ongoing on two special needs houses in Oylegate. He said that the roofs were now in place, doors and windows had been installed, rendering was complete and that the houses should be ready by May. He also gave an update on eight houses which are currently under construction at Cherry Orchard, saying that blockwork was now nearing completion and it was hoped that the programme would be completed by 2018.
Going forward, Mr O'Gorman said there were a further 52 units planned for Greenville Lane and about another 120 houses which have the councils support. He said that progress was steady and this was welcomed by the council members.
