Director cries foul over dog dirt

Director of Services for the Enniscorthy area has said that the amount of dog poo on our streets is 'unbelievable' and that something needs to be done about it.

Speaking at last week's meeting of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council, John Carley said: 'The amount of dog fouling on our streets is unbelievable. I'm just back from Australia and for whatever reason, it's just not a problem out there, at least in Perth where I was anyway. You just don't see it.'

Cllr Johnny Mythen said that it was a difficult battle, but dog owners needed to be educated and encouraged to clean up after their pets. Gerry Forde from the Department of the Environment said that efforts had been made in the past, handing things out to dog owners at black-spots etc, however it seems to have made little difference.

'It's very difficult to get dog owners to change,' he said.
