Councillor Barbara Anne Murphy raised her concerns over the apparent sale of The Millrace Hotel in Bunclody at last week's meeting of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council. She said that she had been informed that the hotel had been sold and that the owners intended on turning the building into a nursing home, before asking if any planning applications had been listed.

A representative of the planning department told her that she couldn't say at this stage if anything had been submitted, but nothing was listed just yet.

'Well I know that there will be a lot of objections if there are plans for anything other than a hotel,' Cllr Murphy said. 'That hotel is absolutely essential to Bunclody and I would urge people to keep an eye out for it.'

Cllr Kathleen Codd Nolan agreed with her colleague's sentiments.

'A lot of people have been stopping me and they are appalled by the idea that the hotel has been sold, especially when positive things are finally starting to happen in the town. This will have a detrimental effect on Bunclody and the only thing we can do legally is object to anything else going in there. It's a sad state of affairs.'
