Byrne's redeem book tokens from 24 years ago!
There's nothing more frustrating than finding an out of date voucher down the back of a drawer, thinking of the money wasted. That wouldn't be a problem at Byrne's Bookstore, as the shop on Court Street recently honoured book tokens that were purchased 24 years beforehand!
Aileen White from Ballyroebuck arrived into the Enniscorthy store recently having discovered book tokens to the value of £20 that had been purchased at the shop in 1993.
Given the fact that we've even undergone a currency change since, it perhaps wouldn't have been unreasonable for the staff to tell her that there was nothing they could do, however, owner Damian Byrne said that he would be more than happy to accept the tokens.
The tokens themselves representing a little bit of the history of the business in the local community, Damian marked the unusual occurrence with a quick snap before Aileen chose brand new gardening and puzzle books in exchange for the two £5 and £10 tokens.
Mr Byrne said that he was delighted to be able to help and it was a great reminder of how the business has been a part of the local community for over 40 years.
