Bunclody has new Peace Commissioner
The Carrigduff area of Bunclody has a new Peace Commissioner following the appointment of Helena Byrne to the role.
She was appointed by Minister for Justice and Equality, Charlie Flanagan TD and speaking in the wake of accepting her nomination she said she was honoured to take on the role.
'I'm honoured and privileged to accept this voluntary position,' she said.
A Peace Commissioner is an honorary Irish appointment made by the Minister for Justice and Equality.
The powers and duties of the role consist primarily with taking statutory declarations and witnessing signatures on documents as required by various authorities.
It is an honorary position and Peace Commissioners do not charge a fee for their service.
Mr Byrne said there is a demand for Peace Commissioners especially in the area of teaching over the summer.
'There is considerable demand for Peace Commissioners to witness signatures on forms for teachers who will deliver extra tuition to children with autism during the summer months.'
