'Biodiversity garden' plan for eyesores

NEGLECTED open areas of Wexford town could be enrolled in the cause of biodiversity, according to Cllr George Lawlor.

He pointed to an overgrown patch of land behind the Carraig Bán estate. He felt that it might be possible to manage the site as a biodiversity garden rather than allowing it become an eyesore.

This would attract marks in the tidy towns competition, he indicated.

Cllr Deirdre Wadding had other ideas, pointing out that an allotment scheme in the town came to an end at the end of last year when the land being utilised was sold over the heads of the allotment holders.

Director of service Diarmuid Houston indicated that he was open to proposals to make use of such sites.
