St Patrick's Special School took on the coaches from the schools soccer scheme in a grudge match at the Astro Active Centre recently. The St Patrick's students were on a 10-match winning streak having put the likes of Enniscorthy Vocational College PLC, Enniscorthy CBS and the Meanscoil to the sword, and they were keen to add the coaches to that list.

The coaches, managed by Cllr John O'Rourke, had a huge task ahead of them against an in form team and it was very close in the first half, the ref Johnny Whelan calling for the break with the score at 3-3. Former Wexford FC player Jamie Fox grabbed a brace while Mikey O'Brien from Youthreach also found the net for the coaches. For St Patrick's, Dylan Larkin was on fire, scoring a hat-trick.

The ref came in for some criticism in the second half, with Cllr O'Rourke bemoaning some of his decisions that went in favour of the students. After another tense half of football, the scores finished 8-7 in favour of St Patrick's who will now enter 2018 on top of the tree with the Schools Soccer Coaching Scheme in second, the Vocational College in third and CBS TY joint fourth with Meanscoil Gharman.

While the St Patrick's students enjoyed their celebrations, Cllr O'Rourke thanked Ger Mackey of Wexford County Council and the Enniscorthy Municipal District for all their support, along with Enniscorthy United.
