Need for community development work

Brendan Keane

There is a need for community development work to take place in Enniscorthy town.

That was the view expressed by the Enniscorthy District Manager, Ger Mackey, when he presented his report to the members of the local authority at their monthly meeting in the Presentation Centre last week.

In particular, he said the east of the town is an area that would benefit from community development work with an emphasis on young people.

Mr Mackey said discussions have taken place between the local authority, the Gardai and the FDYS with a view to developing 'an appropriate pilot model' of community development to engage with young people in that area of the town.

He said such a pilot scheme could be rolled out across the entire town.

A progress report on the scheme is expected to be presented to the local authority members at their meeting in December.
