Raising a beer to a well run event
Having a beer on the go with friends really paid off recently as a cheque for €850 was handed over to St Vincent de Paul - the proceeds of the Enniscorthy Beer Mile which took place last month.
Somewhat of an unusual event, it saw a group of some 30 plucky competitors run four laps of the track at Enniscorthy Sports Hub, stopping after every lap to down a bottle of beer. The first person to complete four laps and four beers was declared the winner! The craic was ninety on the night as the best of the runners battled the best of the drinkers on an even playing field.
Organised by Brian Maher, Brian Murphy and Jessie O'Connor, the event was said to have been a great success and the trio are hoping to do it all again some time soon, perhaps at a warmer time of year.
The trio were delighted to hand over the cheque for €850 to Ian Booth from St Vincent de Paul who thanked them for all their fundraising efforts and said that the money would be put to good use at what can be a difficult time of year for many families in the wake of Christmas. The lads wished to thank everyone who took part and contributed.
