Madge was a loving wife, mother and grandmother
There was great sadness recently at the passing of Madge Sheehan of 17 St Senan's Road, who passed away at the age of 91. Born on September 8, 1926 at 44 Seville Place in Dublin, Madge was the fourth eldest of ten children born to Christopher Doyle and Jane Smullen.
Her school days were spent in the Dominican College in Eccles Street, Dublin, before she began her working career as a telegraphist with CIE. Her work then took her to Ballinasloe and Tuam before being posted to Enniscorthy. It was there on the station platform that she met the love of her life Kevin Sheehan.
Kevin was a keen sportsman, winning many awards for athletics and, needless to say, he also won Madge's heart. Madge got right behind the sporting efforts and she washed many a Wexford hurling jersey back in the 1950's. The pair were married in Christ the King Church in Cabra in June of 1949 and from that day on, Enniscorthy was to become Madge's permanent home. Madge was a devout Catholic who attended Mass every day of her life. She also had a great love of GAA and loved watching all the games.
A large crowd gathered for Madge's funeral Mass and as mourners filed into St Mary's Cemetery, the sound of the steam train passing into town for the festival provided a poignant backdrop. The family were also extremely grateful to the Shamrocks GAA Club who formed a guard of honour and walked alongside the hearse with great dignity.
Madge's one wish in life was that her children would be happy and kind to each other always.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed by the family she leaves behind her.
She was the beloved wife of the late Kevin and loving mother of Anne, Gerard, Patricia, Mary, Dolores, Terry, Finola, Martin, Gráinne & Sinéad.
Sadly missed by her loving family, dear friends Peadar Lynch and Dermot O'Hanlon, brother Vincent, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, 34 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one great grandchild sisters-in-law Marie, Kitty & Kathleen, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
May she rest in peace.
