Walkers setting off on the Templeshannon Community Centre fundraising walk

Babies in buggies, dogs on leads and walkers of all ages and abilities took to the streets of Templeshannon recently for a special fundraising walk for Templeshannon Community and Childcare Centre. A large crowd gathered at the community centre and limbered up before getting underway after registration.

The walk has become an annual event and attracts a good crowd every year walking from the Shannon out to Cooladine in order to raise some much needed funds for the centre.

Organisers were delighted with the enthusiasm for the event and there was a great buzz at the starting line with plenty of fun and games for the little ones including face-painting and a disco when they returned. People were invited to walk as far as they wanted, as many brought small children along for the walk too, and they all arrived back at the centre for a cuppa and a chat afterwards.

'It was a great day,' said Manager Anita Cody. 'The weather was lovely for us and we had a great turnout. People took sponsorship cards and collected money from friends and neighbours for us. We are funded, but any maintenance etc we have to cover ourselves. At the moment, we're hoping to raise funds to do up our kitchen and also the ladies toilets. Sponsorship books are still out at the moment, but we're hopeful that we might have a couple of thousand to start anyway.'
