Having donated her hair to the Rapunzel Foundation previously, Geraldine Farrell underwent another image change as she did the same thing yet again, this time raising over €1,000 each for two wonderful causes in the form of The Hope Cancer Support Centre and It's Good To Talk.

'Initially when I cut my hair for Rapunzel I didn't really have a personal reason for doing it,' Geraldine explained.

'After that then my sister Lisa got sick with breast cancer and it had a huge impact on our family.

Following that I got sick myself and needed some help so I was put in touch with It's Good To Talk. That's the reason that I picked those two causes to raise money for.

The Hope Centre were so good to Lisa when she was going through treatment and thankfully she's in great form now. They got it just in time.'

While Geraldine's hair went directly to the Rapunzel foundation to make wigs for sick children, she was also delighted to collect money for both The Hope Centre and It's Good To Talk.

A familiar and popular face in Pettitt's where she works, Geraldine received great support from her employers, colleagues and customers and collection buckets were placed around the store before she eventually got the chop, in the shop, with sister Lisa doing the honours.

Geraldine was blown away by the support she received and was delighted to be able to hand over the cheques to the worthy causes.

'I was over the moon with the support,' she said. 'Everyone was so good.

'Everyone in Pettitt's and all the customers were so good to me and really got behind me. I was delighted to do it.

'To me it was only hair, but seeing the impact that losing her hair had on my sister. We're just extremely grateful to still have her here with us after everything.

'I'd like to thank my family and friends and everyone who got involved with the fundraising and people who contributed in any way, either in Pettitt's or by donating to the online campaign.'
