Ger Devereux to be remembered with charity run
As his second anniversary approaches, the family and friends of the late Ger Devereux are getting ready to hit the roads around Enniscorthy to raise funds in his memory with a memorial 6km walk or run. Formerly of Milehouse, Enniscorthy, Ger served with the Irish Defence forces for many years before he passed away suddenly in September 2015 having suffered a heart attack in what was a devastating loss to his loving family.
Two years down the line, Ger's brother Michael is determined to keep his memory alive by raising funds for an external defibrillator and training in the Milehouse area of town, and hopefully some funds for the Irish Heart Foundation as well.
With Heart Disease being one of the most common causes of death in Ireland, it is hoped that the Ger Devereux Memorial Walk & Run will not only raise money for an important cause, but will also raise awareness among the general public and help to deliver services that will contribute to a reduction in premature deaths.
The event will get under way from the Education Centre on the Milehouse Road on Sunday, September 10, with registration at 10 a.m. and starter's orders at 11 a.m. A big crowd is anticipated and sponsorship forms are available.
'The Heart Foundation are the nation's heart and stroke charity,' said Michael. 'Their mission is to affect positive change in the lifestyles of Irish people, to achieve better outcomes for those affected by heart disease and stroke and to challenge when the health of our nation is put at risk. They empower people to live longer, healthier lives. I hope that Ger's walk maybe used to support this mission statement and also help the local community.'
