Thanks for support: Enniscorthy Retirement Association has acknowledged the support it received from members of the general public for a recent coffee morning event in aid of three local charities.

The beneficiaries included Hospice Homecare Nursing, the Alzheimer unit in St John's Hospital, Enniscorthy, and County Wexford CWCW.

The fundraiser, which included a sale of work, was held at Astro Active and raised €3,500 for the three charities.

The organisers were delighted with the turnout on the day.

Speaking to this newspaper, one of the organisers, Valerie Morris, said: 'It was very well supported and we were delighted with the turnout.'

Of the three beneficiaries, she commented: 'They are three very good organisations that do a lot of very good work in the community.'

Whist drive

The local whist drives sessions have resumed in Enniscorthy.

The next regular whist drive sessions will take place in St Anthony's Unit at the CWCW on Friday, December 10 and 24, at 8 p.m.

St Stephen's Day walk

The time to dust down the running/walking shoes is approaching in time for Galbally's 'Christmas Jumper' festive run, walk, trot or pram push.

Galbally Sports and Leisure Club will host a 5k fun run/walk on St Stephen's Day, December 26.

The event will begin at 12 noon, with registration taking place from 11.30 a.m. onwards.

The cost of entry will be €5 (adults) and €10 (family).

Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards.

A spokesperson for the organising committee commented: 'Everyone is invited to come along, wear their Christmas jumper and get involved in what promises to be a fun community event.'

All funds raised through the fun walk will go directly towards the renovation and development work taking place at Galbally Hall.

Digital learning hub

The Digital Learning Club is meeting on Fridays in Enniscorthy Library between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

Those attending can bring along their own smartphone, laptop or tablet and ask the questions that matter.

This is a free club and everyone is welcome to attend.

The Digital Learning Club is also looking for more volunteers to help out.

Anyone in a position to be able to spare one hour a week to help people in the community improve their digital skills is asked to drop into the next session in the library.

Christmas road run

A Christmas road run will take place in Clohamon village on Sunday, December 22, at 5 p.m.

The charity run is being organised to raise money for the Bunclody Daycare Centre.

Registration will take place from 4 p.m. (in Slaney Foods car park) and the cost of entry will be €20 - inclusive of refreshments, raffle entry and the chance to win a prize for the best-lit vehicle.

The route will see the vehicles travel from Clohamon to Kilrush, Drumderry, Kildavin and Bunclody before making their way back to Clohamon.

Once they arrive back, there will be a Christmas carol session at 7 p.m. featuring members of Clohamon Foroige Youth Club.

The organisers say there will be handmade Christmas decorations available for sale there and the proceeds will go towards the youth club.

Jewellery search

The search is ongoing in Enniscorthy for the owner of a piece of jewellery that was found by a local woman in the Riverside Park Hotel.

The piece was found a couple of days before St Patrick's Day.

It was bought in a shop in Dublin that is now closed.

The woman who found it is anxious to get it back to its owner as she feels it might be of huge sentimental value.

Anyone who is missing a piece of jewellery, or who knows someone to whom it might belong, is asked to contact this newspaper by emailing: brendan.keane@peoplenews.ie.

Thank you to the people who have contacted us already about jewellery that's missing but unfortunately, to-date, the owner of this particular piece hasn't been found.

Rathnure panto

This year's pantomime in Rathnure hall will continue on December 18, at 7.45 p.m.

There will also be three shows after Christmas - on December 27 (7.45 p.m.), and on December 28 and 29 (at 6 p.m.).

Marriage note

Any person from the Bree, Galbally or Ballyhogue areas who got married since late 2017 and would like to have their marriage recorded in the Bree Parish Journal No 19 is asked to contact breeparishjournal@gmail.com.

Those interested should supply the names of both parties who got married in addition to the townsland of the person from the parish.

Those submitting names are also asked to include the native town or county of the other party too if they aren't from the parish.

The information should also include the marriage date.

Holy Land pilgrimage

Parish priest Fr Denis Kelly, Screen/Curracloe will be leading a pilgrimage to the Holy Land from March 17 to 25, 2020.

The group will spend four nights in Nazareth and four nights in Bethlehem on a half-board basis.

It promises to be a lovely pilgrimage both spiritually and from a tourist perspective.

There are limited seats avail-able.

Bingo in Oylegate

The bingo in Mernagh's pub in Oylegate is now being run to raise much-needed funds to assist with helping the girls in Coláiste Bride, Enniscorthy to work with the IHCPT trip in Lourdes.

The bingo sessions com-mence at 9.15 p.m. on Thursday nights and all support for this worthy cause will be greatly appreciated.

Get out and walk

The lights will be on at the walking track at the GAA grounds in Oylegate every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The facility is available to everyone in the community.

People are encouraged to go along and get fit over the winter months.

The 'couch to 5k' group meets on Wednesday evenings.

Everyone in the area is welcome to participate.

Retirement group news

Ongoing activities for Enniscorthy Retirement Association include: Mondays - line-dancing (11a.m.) and bowls (1 p.m.) at astro-turf; Pitch-and-Putt 9.30 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays at St Patrick's Park; Wednesdays Riverside Walk at 11 a.m., meeting up at the hotel; Bingo on December 18, at Loreto Village; Thursdays - Ramblers Walk at 9.30 a.m., meeting in Lidl car park; Scrabble (at 10.30 a.m.) and Crafts (at 2 p.m.) - both at astro-turf.

Christmas lunch

The Oulart ICA guild will hold its Christmas Lunch on Saturday, January 18, and members will do Kris Kindle at the event.

Anne Byrne represented the guild in the 'Autumn Foliage' competition at the last Federation meeting.

Most of the members signed up to attend the Wexford Federation Lunch on Sunday, February 9.

Christmas cards

The Parents' Association of Scoil Mochua in Oulart are producing Christmas Cards as part of their fundraising activities.

Packs of 10 cards will be on sale for €8, €15 (for two packs) and €20 (for three packs).

The cards can be bought at Oulart post office, Lar Corrigan's Supermarket and Pierce Redmond's, Raheenduff.

School concert

Scoil Mochua's in Oulart, will be holding its annual Christmas Concert in the village on Tuesday, December 17, and Wednesday, December 18.

The shows will begin at 7 p.m. and the cost of admission will be €5 for adults and €2 for teenagers.

A lot of work has gone into preparing for the concert which promises to be a great night out for all family members.

The maximum cost for families will be €10.

Parents and audience members will only be asked to pay admission on one night.

Coffee morning

A recent coffee morning held in Mernagh's lounge in Oylegate raised €860 for the SERT bus and the Hope Centre.

The organisers were delighted with the success of the event and thanked everyone in the community who supported it.

Christmas choir practice

Rehearsals are ongoing for the Christmas Eve mass choir in the Ballagh.

The rehearsals take place on Mondays in the Ballagh Church from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

New members are always welcome to join.

Responders grateful

Oulart-The Ballagh CFR Unit would sincerely like to thank the organisers of a recent charity bingo event in the village.

Joanne Dunne, Nicola Stamp and Yvonne O'Leary donated over €4,000 to the unit as a result of the event that they recently organised.

This money will be put to great use for equipment and training.

The local CFR unit is always looking for new volunteers.

Toddler group

A baby and toddler group gathers every Tuesday (term time) in Glenbrien's Old School Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
