Historical Society trip: Uí Cinsealaigh Historical Society's next outing will take place on Tuesday, May 21.

It will include a guided tour of Cushendale Woollen Mills followed, after lunch, by a guided tour of Duiske Abbey.

The cost of the trip, including tea or coffee, will be €25.

A coach will leave the Promenade, Enniscorthy, at 9.45 a.m. and anyone interested in participating on the trip is asked to contact Kitty on or before May 18, at 053 9235165 or 087 7546202.

Nurses conference

The annual conference of the Retired Nurses Association of Ireland will take place in Enniscorthy on Wednesday, May 22.

The event will be held in the Riverside Park Hotel and registration will take place from 11 a.m.

The conference itself is scheduled to begin at midday.

The meeting it expected to finish at 4.30 p.m.

A spokesperson for the organisers said all retired nurses are invited to attend.

'Come along to hear some interesting speakers and join with us to debate topics which are of interest to us, meet old friends and make new acquaintances,' she said.

The event will be free of charge to enter and there will be finger food available.

Medjugorje conference

The Medjugorje conference and day of prayer will take place on Saturday, August 31.

It will feature Sr Briege McKenna and will take place at Neptune Stadium, Cork.

Tickets to attend the event are priced €20 and are available from eventbrite.ie.

For those interested in attending a discount code 'EARLYBIRD' can be entered to receive a discount price of €15.

That offer is only available till May 31.

All tickets will be entered for a free pilgrimage to Medjugorje from Cork or Dublin.

Computer courses

Age Action is running free computer classes for beginners in Enniscorthy library.

The classes are aimed at those over 55 years-of-age and are carried out in a relaxed, informal setting.

The organisers of the classes are also asking for volunteer tutors to help with the classes.

Full training will be provided to those interested in helping out in a tutorial capacity.

Caregivers required

Experiences caregivers are urgently required by Home Instead Senior Care Wexford.

The organisation, which provides an important services across county Wexford, is seeking kind, caring and considerate caregivers throughout the county.

The organisation is seeking people with a QQI Level 5 qualification to help care for elderly people and people with disabilities in their own homes and in doing so help them retain their independence.

Hook of Faith

The latest Hook of Faith interview, which is available online at thehookoffaith.com, features Steve Warner.

Mr Warner is the former director of the famous folk choir at the university of Notre Dame in the USA.

Mr Warner is highly respected and is very well known here in Ireland as well as in America.

He is now based at the Faith and Reason centre in University Church, St Stephen's Green, Dublin.

The website also features the sixth video meditation on Jesus' seven last words with his cry of 'it is finished' from the cross.

Athenaeum book launch

A book launch will take place in the Athenaeum, Enniscorthy, on Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m.

'Sagairt Chróga Fhearna' will be launched his historian, Brian Ó Cléirigh.

The book was written by Séamas de Vál and is a short account of four priests from the diocese of Ferns, who played an important role in certain events in the history of the country.

The book launch is being organised in conjunction with Foilseacháin Ábhair Spioradálta.

There will also be music entertainment provided on the day by John Furlong, Mattie Murphy and friends.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend this event especially those with a keen interest in the history of the town and its people.

Whist drive

A special whist drive event is planned for June 9.

More details about the session will be published in the Enniscorthy Guardian over the coming weeks.

Charity coffee morning

A charity coffee morning will take place in the IFA centre in Enniscorthy on Saturday, May 18.

The event will be held from 10.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is being hosted by the family of Darragh O'Loughlin.

It's being organised to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities (Ireland) and also CMRF (Children's Medical and Research Foundation) Crumlin.

Both the CMRF and RMH charities do a lot of very important work in the area of health and well-being.

They focus particular attention on the needs of young people.

Due to the worthy nature of the event and the organisations people all over the country everyone in the community is being encouraged to attend.

Pilgrimage

The pilgrimage to Camino de Santiago will take place from August 17 to August 24.

The cost will be €599 inclusive of flights, accommodation and insurance.

However, places are limited and early booking is advisable.

The pilgrimage director will be Fr Roger O'Neill and the chaplain will be Fr James Cullen.

A pilgrimage to Fatima will take place from October 9 to October 16.

The pilgrimage will be led by Bishop Denis Brennan.

The cost of that will be €785 per person sharing.

Active retirement

Enniscorthy Active Retirement Association has a number of different activities planned in the coming weeks that will keep the members very busy.

One of the most active organisations of its type in the county the Enniscorthy association always tries to have a variety of trip, outings and workshops planned each year.

The proposed date for the forthcoming day outing is June 5 and details of that will be relayed to the members over coming meetings.

Ongoing activities in the association include: Mondays - Line Dancing 11 a.m. and bowls at 1 p.m. at the astroturf; Pitch- and-putt at 10.30 a.m., Monday and Friday at St Patrick's Park (weather permitting); Tuesdays - monthly Bus/Walk outings; Wednesdays - Riverside walk at 11 a.m. (meeting at the hotel).

Thursdays - Ramblers walk, meeting at 9.30 a.m. at Lidl car park and scrabble at 10.30 a.m. at the astroturf.

Crafts will also take place on Thursdays at 2 p.m. at the astroturf.

Members are also asked to note that memberships close at the end of the month and to ensure they are up-to-date.

Parish golf classic

St Aidan's cathedral parish golf classic will take place at Enniscorthy Golf Club on Friday, May 24.

The cost of entry will be €140 per team-of-four and there will be prizes for GUI and ILGU members and non-members.

Anyone interested in entering a team is asked to contact the parish office on the aforementioned number to find out about time allocations and tee slots.

In addition to being a great fundraising event the golf classic will also give people an opportunity to get out and exercise in some fresh air with family, friends and fellow golf enthusiasts.

Hope CD

A local singer has produced a CD in aid of the Hope Centre in Enniscorthy.

Peter Hughes, from Galbally, produced the five-track EP specifically to raise money for the centre which provides a very valuable service to people all over the county and the south east.

The CD, which includes the single 'Keep On the Sunny Side', is now available through local outlets and also through the Cancer Support Shop on Mill Park Road.

The cost of the EP is €10 and all support will be greatly appreciated.

Open day

An open day will take place at Artramon House and gardens on Sunday, May 19.

With the weather expected to take a turn for the better over the coming weeks it promises to be a great fun day out for all the family.

Come and see

The Diocesan Vocation Directors, in conjunction with the National Office, will be running a 'come and see' weekend retreat in St Patrick's College, Maynooth.

The event will take over the weekend of May 18 and 19, and will be aimed at men age 18 and over.

It will follow on from a successful national 'come and see' vocations weekend that was held in November.

Pastoral council

A St Aidan's Parish pastoral council meeting will take place in the Manse on Wednesday, May 15, at 7.30 p.m.

All members are being invited to attend.

Silvertones concert

The annual Silvertones annual variety concert will take place in St Aidan's Cathedral, Enniscorthy, on Thursday, May 30, at 8 p.m.

The Silvertones event will feature: Eithne Corrigan - Choral Director; Fintan Cleary - Keyboard; Colette Cleary - Bass; Ann Wickham - flute; Soloists: George Lawlor (Tenor); Siobhán Whelan (Cello); Lorna Mahon (Soprano) and Mollie Carroll (Harp).

All proceeds from the event will go towards the Hope Centre in Enniscorthy with tickets available from the parish office.
