Martina Fitzgerald: Enniscorthy Library is hosting a talk with RTÉ political correspondent Martina Fitzgerald on Thursday, November 22, at 7 p.m. Martina will speak about her recent book - 'Madam Politician - The women at the table of Irish political power'.
The book focuses on the role of women in Irish politics over 100 years and contains interviews with just 19 female politicians and two presidents. Martina looks forward to telling the story of how the book came about and the characters she encountered at Enniscorthy Library. For more details, contact the librarian.
Enniscorthy & Monart Union host their Christmas Bazaar in The Church Institute this Saturday, November 24, from 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. The event promises bags and bling, a bottle stall, country produce, bric-a-brac, books and toys, a cake stall and lucky dip envelopes. There will also be raffles for Christmas cakes and hampers and refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend.
Garden and Flower Club
Co Wexford Garden and Flower will host their Gala Christmas Demonstration on Thursday, November 29, at 8 p.m. in The Riverside Park Hotel. The demonstration will be by Rose Hickey and the title will be 'Christmas Magic'. The cost of entry is €5 for members and €10 for non members. The Annual Pioneer Social will take place this Friday, November 23 at The Riverside Park Hotel. Things will kick off with Mass at 7 p.m. followed by a meal, at a cost of €25 per person. A special fundraising music event hosted by 'Ain't Misbehavin' in aid of the Hope Centre is to take place at The Presentation Centre on November 30 at 8.30 p.m. 'Swingbells' will see the finest music from the swing era of the 1930s and 40s, as well as a selection of Christmas tunes. The set list will include songs from the likes of Fats Waller, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and others of that time. Ain't Misbehavin is a fantastic group of musicians, consisting of Eddie Crean on vocals and guitar, Richard King on lead guitar, Vicky Clancy on clarinet and sax and Tony Thompson on bass. Admission is €10 and all support is greatly appreciated.
The next Whist Drive takes place at St Anthony's Unit at the CWCW on Friday, November 30, getting underway at 8 p.m. sharp. The cost of admission is €5 on the night and tea will be served. All are welcome to attend and all support is greatly appreciated.

Hillbrook Lawn Tennis Club are to host a fundraising table quiz this Friday, November 23, at 8 p.m. in the IFA Centre. The cost of entry will be €40 per team of four and there will be plenty of spot prizes on the night. All are welcome to attend.

If you're struggling with mental health difficulties, GROW is a community-based mental health organisation which holds weekly meetings locally. Meetings are confidential and no referral is necessary, simply come along. GROW promotes breaking social isolation. Meetings take place on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays at 7.30 p.m. in The Presentation Centre, Convent Road.
Community Watch group
St Aidan's Neighbourhood Watch is looking for more volunteers to lend a hand with nightly patrols. In particular, women are being sought to participate and help out and Chairman Bernard O'Leary is urging any ladies locally interested in helping out to call him on 085 1088163. Each volunteer will be given a high visibility vest and a rechargeable flash lamp.
Blackstairs Mountain Theatre are delighted to present their staging of the John B Keane classic 'Sive' at The Presentation Centre nightly at 8 p.m. from December 6 to 9. A dark and powerful tale of a beautiful young schoolgirl forced into an arranged marriage with a rich lecherous old man. The production features a stellar cast and promises it promises to be a great show. Tickets are priced at €12.50 and are available from www.presentationcentre.ie.
A new members meeting will take place at The Riverside Park Hotel on December 4 at 2.30 p.m. There is an upcoming day trip to a craft and food fair in the RDS in Dublin on December 6 and the annual Christmas Lunch will take place on December 10 at The Riverside Park Hotel from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets, priced at €20 for members, €25 for non members, are available at the December meeting and NOT on the door.

St Patrick's Special School will host its annual Christmas Craft Fair on Sunday, December 2, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be plenty up for grabs on the day with lots of handmade crafts including jewellery, candles, crocheting, cards and much, much more. The St Senan's Parish Calendar for 2019, featuring some stunning photos of Enniscorthy, is still on sale and is being mooted as the ideal stocking filler this Christmas. The calendar can be purchased from the parish office, the sacristy after Mass, O'Callaghan's Centra or by calling Liz Wildes on 087 9151815. The calendar was a big hit last year and once again all photos have graciously been provided by Liz.
Christmas Tree Festival
Having proved a big hit in recent years, St Mary's Church of Ireland is getting set to host its annual Christmas Tree Festival once again. The festival sees schools, businesses and local organisations all decorate small trees in their own unique way for display in the church from November 30 to December 9.
Those wishing to take part are encouraged to be as creative as possible and avoid repeating ideas from last year. Trees cannot exceed 6ft and people interested in entering a tree or providing sponsorship are asked to contact Rev Nicola Halford on 0871233338.
Christmas Switch On
The 2018 switching on of the Christmas lights will take place in Enniscorthy on Saturday, November 24, at 6.30 p.m. in Market Square. There will be a big parade getting underway at 6 p.m. and there will also be an Enniscorthy Elf Treasure Trail, as well as Santa's Enchanted Castle.
Over 75% of tours of Santa's Enchanted Castle are already booked, but there is limited availability at www.santasenchatedcastle.ie.
The Enniscorthy Delightful Dollies Women's Community Group are having their annual fair of home baking, trade and crafts tomorrow, Wednesday, November 21 from 9.30 a.m. until 12.30 p.m. at Bellefield GAA Club. The annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal has begun and they are very grateful to Celtic Linen Ltd in Wexford for giving the use of their premises as a checking centre. Any volunteers who can lend a hand helping with checking shoeboxes are welcome.
