Bunclody Beat

St Patrick's Day parade: The Bunclody St Patrick's Day parade will take place on Tuesday, March 17. Those wishing to enter floats and or marching groups should contact Barbara-Anne Murphy at 087 6736966 or bambunclody@gmail.com.

Groups and floats taking part in the parade should meet at Glanbia, Carrigduff no later than 10 a.m.

The parade will set off from Carrickduff at 10.45 a.m. and will pause for blessing of Shamrock at the Reviewing Stand, Market Square at 11 a.m.

All are welcome to participate or come along and enjoy the day. Entertainment is by Liam Sharkey. No live animals permitted in the parade.

The Monday Club

The Monday Club has organised March meetings as follows.

Monday, March 16: Beauty Tips with Dol from Doll's Beauty Clinic.

Monday, March 23: Positive Thinking and Music' with Jackie Byrne.

Monday, March 30: Music and song with local artists.

The Monday Club meets on Mondays in Bunclody Day Care Centre. New members are always welcome.

Throughout the year there will be entertainment, information sharing, arts/crafts, guest speakers, bingo/card playing.

This club would suit 60+ age group. The entrance fee is €4 which includes tea and a light lunch.

Bunclody Library

There are a number of events due to take place at Bunclody Library in the coming week.

On Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m.  there will be a musical evening with local artists to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. This evening of music will range from traditional to international music and light refreshments will be provided. Booking essential.

A six-week course of basic computer classes will take place from Thursday, March 12, to Thursday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to noon. Computers/Laptops will be provided for these free classes.Topics covered will include: Introduction to the internet, conducting everyday transactions, sending/receiving email, online banking and other services, and internet safety and security. Booking is essential as places are limited.

On Saturday, March 14, from 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a Lego Movie Screening and Makealong. This is suitable for children aged five and over and places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

On Saturday, March 21, from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m. this is an Easter Chick Claymazing Workshop. This Easter-themed activity will encourage children to bring their imagination to life and is suitable for six to ten-year-olds. Limited places, book early.

On Tuesday, March 24, from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. there will be parent and toddler yoga with Vivian Brodie Hayes. Join Vivian, a certified dance artist for parent and toddler yoga. Places limited and booking is essential.

On Tuesday, March 24, from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. there will be chair yoga with Vivian Brodie Hayes. In chair yoga, traditional yoga poses are modified. Early booking essential.

Family First Aid with the Order Of Malta will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 7 p.m. This talk will demonstrate what to do in the event of an emergency or accident. It is part of the Parenting Today series of talks for 2020. Booking essential.

Springtime Gymboree with Maggie takes place on Saturday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to noon. This event is a music and play programme suitable for babies to five years. Booking essential.

On Saturday, March 28, from 3.30 p.m. there will be a talk on the BA in Early Childhood and Care with Carlow IT Wexford Campus. Lillian Byrne, Director for the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education and Care at IT Carlow's Wexford Campus, will talk on the above course as an entry route into postgraduate studies training to become a Primary School Teacher. Booking essential.

Toddler/Preschool Story Time Stories, songs, rhymes and art and craft for under-5s. Join us for a lively morning of fun and chat on Friday mornings at 11 a.m.

Bunclody Knitting Club meets Wednesday mornings at 10.30 a.m., places limited, booking essential.

The online e-resources drop-in clinic allows people to drop by with a smart phone, tablet or laptop and avail of the free clinic in how to use our online services which include ebooks, digital magazines, e-audiobooks and much more. Every second Tuesday at 11 a.m.

County Wexford Library Service has launched a new project, in collaboration with the EPA, to Borrow a digital radon monitor from your library. Bunclody and County Wexford is the first location for this in Ireland. The digital radon monitors can be borrowed from the library, as you borrow a book, for three weeks. In that time, people can see by the reading, if their house is radon free or what levels are being recorded. And of course the EPA can be very easily contacted if people have queries or concerns from what they are learning. There is a 24-hour help line where immediate queries can be dealt with, more complex queries aim to be followed up in the working day by the EPA. There will be 20 monitors for loan in Bunclody Library. Please contact the library for details.

Bunclody Swimming Pool

Applications are invited for Bunclody Swimming Pool and Amenities for the following positions for the 2020 summer season running from June 13 to August 30 for the following positions: Manager and Senior/Junior Lifeguards. Application forms are available by emailing bunclodyswimpool@gmail.com. Interested parties should include a valid contact number and email address.

Applicants must be 17 years on June 1 and hold a current IWSA Pool Lifeguard Award before commencing employment. Preference will be given to those who also hold a minimum IWSA Assistant Teachers Qualification or Swim Ireland Level 1 Teaching Award. Valid certificates required to be presented at interview.

The closing date for completed application forms Monday, March 23, Pool test and interviews will be held on April 10.

Workshop for carers

Family Carers Ireland, in conjunction with Headway Ireland, will be holding a workshop for carers of a loved one with an acquired brain injury on Wednesday, April 8, at 10.30 a.m. in the Cathedral Parish Centre, College Street, Carlow.

Places are limited on this workshop and booking is essential. To book your place please contact 056 7721424. There is no charge to attend.

Operation Transformation

The very successful Clohamon Operation Transformation will present a cheque of the funds raised to Bunclody Home Care Cancer on Saturday, March 21, in Gahan's Bar, Clohamon.

Bridge

Recent winners at Bunclody Bridge Club were: first, Phil Kinsella and Liz Whelan; second, Aideen Breen and Ann Steemers; third, Kay Morrissey and Ian Booth.

Bunclody Bridge Club meets in Redmond's on Wednesday evenings at 7.30 p.m.

Whist

Whist takes place every Monday in St Mary's Day Care Centre, Ryland Road, Bunclody. First deal - 8.45 p.m. New players always welcome.

Volunteer Drivers Needed

Bunclody Day Care Services is looking for volunteer drivers to help out on a part-time basis on Tuesdays and Thursdays (varied hours).

Bunclody Vocational College

The next Bunclody Vocational School split-the-pot draw will take place on Thursday, March 12.

The most recent winner was Chelsea Sunderland, who won €111 envelopes available in Bunclody Credit Union, Bunclody VC, Eurospar, Ken Rothwell, O'Reilly's SuperValu and Steemers Newsagents.

Save the date: The parents' association will hold a fashion show on Friday, May 8, in Bunclody Golf Club. More details in the coming weeks.

Bunclody Men's Shed

Bunclody Men's Shed is now up and running in Maureen Moorhead's shop, Irish Street, Bunclody. The Men's Shed is open on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Please note the change in times for Monday.
