Christmas Mass Times for the two churches are as follows: Christmas Eve December 24th (First Mass of Christmas): Ballyoughter 7.00pm (Ballyoughter Church Choir), Ballycanew 9.00pm (Deirdre Masterson & Friends).

Christmas Day December 25th: Ballyoughter 9.45 am (Ballyoughter Church Choir), Ballycanew 11.30 am (Parish Choir); Tuesday December 27th: Ballyoughter 9.30am Wednesday December 28th: Ballycanew 9.30am Thursday December 29th: Ballyoughter 9.30am Friday December 30th: Ballycanew 9.30am.


There was no winner of the jackpot on Monday December 12th; winning numbers were 11, 23, 26, 28; Anita Flood matched 3 numbers to receive €200. Vouchers winners: Peggy Byrne, Eddie Masterson, Jason Redmond, The Canteen 3. Sweet winners: Terry Drew, Jamie Furlong.


The Senior Citizens Party takes place on Sunday January 22nd in Ballycanew Community Hall.


The Whist Drive committee would like to thank all the businesses who supported us in our recent Christmas Whist Drive and to thank all the local parishioners who donated prizes as well. Thank you all. The School Mass for End of Year takes place in Ballycanew today Tuesday December 20th at 11.30am and in Ballyoughter this Thursday December 22nd at 9.30am.


Results of Whist Drive held in hall on Friday night December 16th: Top Score Eilish Murray; Gents 1st Noel Carter, 2nd Cyril Goode, 3rd Eileen Dunbarr, Mick Butler, Peg Byrne & Kevin Kinsella; Gents Half Time Cyril Bryan; Ladies 1st-maura Kanalor, 2nd Betty Tomkins, 3rd Flo Kavanagh & Breda O'connor; Ladies Half Time - Alice Gibney. Next Whist Drive will be on Friday December 30th at 8.15pm.


The village Christmas tree was lit on Sunday December 11th with a large crowd in attendance. There was a visit by Santa Claus and Mrs Claus, much to the delight of the 200 children who each received a little present.

The St Nessan's school choir entertained the crowd, ably directed by Ballycanew's Rose of Tralee Karen Mc Gillicuddy and Padraig O'connor. Laura Carroll also provided a selection of seasonal songs.

The Lights Committee raffle was held in the Ramble Inn and the winners were as follows: 1st prize, €120 voucher for driving lessons provided by JM School of motoring was won by Patsy Carroll; 2nd prize, €80 meat voucher provided by the Lights Committee was won by Joan Hobbs; 3rd prize, €70 fuel voucher provided by Ray Stafford was won by Jimmy Murphy; 4th prize, €50 Christmas hamper provided by Pat & Phyllis Breen was won by Lillian Hughes; 5th prize, bottle of whiskey provided by the Ramble Inn was won by Paul Kavanagh; 6th prize, bottle of vodka provided by Bootlaces was won by James Timmons.

A simple ceremony will take place at the village crib on Christmas Eve at 6p.m. when the baby Jesus will be placed in the crib and tha committee invites anybody who would like to attend to do so.


Lucy at Little Ducklings would like to wish all the children attending and their families a happy and peaceful Christmas and looks forward to seeing you all in 2012.


Draughts: well done to the U10 team who came fourth overall Chess : well done to Sean Wafer Brian Lee John Sinnott Fergal Mcguire & Darragh Reid who came third overall Model Making : well done to u12 Boys Sean O Brien U12 Girls Una Mcguire 1st & joint 2nd Maria Dunne and Caoimhe Creane also to Joe Dunne Jason Tompkins & Charles Creane who did very well on the night.

Table Tennis: the U13 boys did very well playing great games on the day well done to Billy Dunne Gearoid Redmond & Fergul Mcguire the ladies U16 team came 2nd overall Niamh Newins Clara Mckeown & Laura Horan had great matches on the day and did us proud the U16 boys team also came 2nd overall John Redmond David Mcdonagh & Andrew Redmond had a great day and played very well

Our lads' first game after the three week Christmas break will be a cup game on the 8th. of January. Team: Colin Hawkins, Patrick Walsh, Morgan Gahan, Cormac Finn, Stephen Whelan, Mark Gahan, Ray O'brien, Robbie Breen, Liam Gahan, Walter Christopher, Jason Smullen.

The U-11 reserves lost to Gorey Rangers by 1-4 on Saturday last, 17th. of December. Josh Redmond scored our goal while Adam Jordan-kelly was the man-of-the-match in this hard fought cup tie.


The Minister of the Word at the Vigil Mass on Saturday night, 24th December, Christmas Eve is Lisa O'dowd with Marie Barn reading at Mass on Christmas morning. Ann Whelan and Caroline Farrington are the Eucharistic Ministers on duty at the Christmas Eve Mass on Saturday evening while Monica Gahan will be helping distribute Communion at the morning Mass on Christmas Day. Please not that this Mass will be at 10.00am.


A Penitential and healing service will be held in St. Cormac's church Boolavogue at 8.30pm tomorrow night, Wednesday 21st December. All are welcome to attend in preparation for the Christmas celebrations.


The Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated in St. Cormac's Church at 8.00 pm. Mass on Christmas morning will be at 10.00 am.
