Around the districts: Clonegal-Kildavin, Clonroche-Poulpeasty, Marshalstown-Castledockrell, Rathnure

Clonegal-Kildavin: Cabaret Fundraiser - The Ben Mulhall Committee will hold a cabaret in Dunne's Bar on Saturday, July 6, after the Clonegal Patron Mass.

Tickets just €5 each and will be available from the following committee members. PJ Kavanagh, Sinéad Gray, Breda Murphy, Chris Moran, Johnny Dunne, Pboy Murphy, Nicola Gray and Marty Murphy or you can buy your tickets on the night. This event promises to be great night with live music and dancing on the night. There will be door prizes and raffle prices. Your support is appreciated.

GAA lotto

There was no winner or online winner of the Kildavin-Clonegal GAA lotto held on Sunday, June 9. Numbers drawn were 17, 22, 23 and 27. One winner match three, Joan Lavin, Abbeydown, receiving €150. Seller's prize goes to Paul Murphy, receiving €50. The next draw will take place in Osborne's Lounge, Clonegal on Sunday, June 23, at 10.30 p.m., with a jackpot worth €9,600. Tickets €2 each.

Patron Masses

The Patron Masses will take place in the parish on the first weekend of July. Clonegal Mass, Saturday, July 6, at 6.30 p.m. and in Kildavin Mass, Sunday, July 7, at 11.30 a.m. People of the parish are reminded that graves should be tidy and if we know of a grave that no longer has anyone to look after it we should make sure that it is clean also.

Clonegal Tidy Village Association

Clonegal Tidy Village Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, June 26, at 7 p.m. in St Brigid's Hall, Clonegal.

Community Work Day

A big thank you to all those who helped at the Clonegal Community Work Day. A major clean-up of cleaning dirty flower beds, pruning, planting fresh flowers and shrubs, painting, picking up litter, sweeping and much more to prepare for this year's Tidy Town Competition for 2019. More needs to be done and we are asking all local residences to help in any way they can to make their garden or housing estates extra special, by planting flowers, painting of an old door or picking up litter.

Cúl Camps

Summer is here and Kildavin will be hosting Kellogg's Cúl Camps during the month of July. This will be an opportunity for your children to learn the skills of Gaelic Games in a full filled environment.

Football will be held from Monday, July 1, to Friday, July 5. Hurling and camogie will be held on Monday, July 22, to Friday 26. Brendan Hayden will supervise both camps. Cost for each camp is first child €60, second child €55 and subsequent children €45. To book a place, please go to kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie. Places are still available.

Deepest Sympathy

The community was saddened to hear the death of the late Mary Ann Kelly (née Walsh), Ballinavortha, Clonegal, who passed away on Sunday, June 6, surrounded by her loving family in Beaumont Hospital. Beloved wife of Kevin and mother of Seán and grandmother of Dean and Jayden. Reposed at Carpenter Bros Funeral Home, Carlow on Tuesday, June 11. Removal on Wednesday, June 12, to St Brigid's Church, Clonegal, for Funeral Mass, followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

School summer Holidays

Clonegal and Kildavin NS will close their doors for the summer holidays on Friday, June 28.

Deepest Sympathy

The community was saddened to hear the death of the late Bro. Pat O'Neill, Patrician Monastery, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, formally of Kildavin, Co Carlow, who passed away on Thursday, May 23. Deeply regretted by his Sisters Julia, Catherine, Sadie, Mary and Margaret, Brothers Christy and Matthew, Patrician Confreres, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and friends. Funeral Mass at St Conleth's Parish Church, Newbridge, followed by burial afterwards in St Conleth's Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Massage and reflexology brings many benefits for both parents and baby.

Storytelling

Next session of storytelling in Castledockrell is on Thursday, June 20, at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served and a raffle held on the night.

The annual patron and blessing of graves is in Castledockrell on Friday, July 5, with Prayers in cemetery at the church at 7.45 p.m. and Prayers in Present Cemetery at 8 p.m.

Mass Times

Weekend Masses in the parish are as follows Saturday in Marshalstown at 7.30 p.m. and Sunday in Castledockrell at 10 a.m. Please note also that baptisms in both Marshalstown and Castledockrell are on Saturdays only.

Social Dance

The next Social Dance in Marshalstown is on Friday, June 21. Music by the Images. Doors open at 9.30 p.m. and dancing starts at 10 p.m. Admission including tea is €8.

Crioshue Patron

The annual patron and blessing of graves is in Crioshue on Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m.

The late Johnny Carty

We lost a good friend and the hall lost a dedicated servant with the passing of Johnny Carty. As a mark of respect to our former chairman, bingo was cancelled on Tuesday the 11th. To Johnny's family we extend sincere sympathy. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Rathnure NS

A Celebration Day will take place at Rathnure National School at midday on Friday, June 21. The school will be celebrating the three in-a-row Mini 7's winning teams, raising flags for Green Schools, Active School, Hurling 365 and GAA All-Star achievements. Refreshments will be in the John Kelly Hall afterwards and everyone in the community is invited to attend this great day of celebration for the school. Our thanks for the great work by Taragh Nolan and all the school teachers as well as the pupils for all the work involved in attaining these awards.
