Bree-Galbally - Christmas Craft Fair: Galbally Community Centre will host a Christmas Craft Fair next Sunday, December 2, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a number of local crafters in attendance with numerous gift ideas. Come and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, bring the kids to see Santa, and meet friends and neighbours while supporting your local community centre. For enquiries please call or text 087 2319219.

Bree Bingo

Bingo will now be starting at the earlier time of 8 p.m. every Tuesday night in Gary Byrnes. Jackpot this week is €450. All ages are welcome on the night.

Sports/Leisure Club Anniversary

The committee of Galbally Sports and Leisure Club would like to invite you to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the hall on December 8 in the Sports and Leisure Club. Entertainment starts at 9 p.m. and includes music, dancing, and storytelling with instrumental pieces and ballads. Licensed Bar on night. Free entry. Strictly over-18s only.

Draughts/Chess Classes

Draughts and Chess take place on Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. in Galbally Hall. Classes are from seven to 15 years. Cost is €2 per child and €4 per family. Galbally Hall Refurbishment

The committee of Galbally Sports and Leisure Club have recently secured a grant under the town and Village Renewal Scheme amounting to €100,000 to refurbish the hall and grounds. Members of the community are invited to an EGM on Sunday, December 9, at 5 p.m. to bring new members to the committee to become involved in the refurbishment and development of Galbally Hall.

Book Launch

'Where the Boro Waters Flow' by Damian Cullen will be launched in the Cloch Bán, Clonroche on Thursday, December 13, at 8.30 p.m. This book is combination of history and poetry largely relating to the Boro River.

The poems are mostly written in the 1930s and 40s by poets who lived near the Boro and preserve history and folklore in their verses. Historic ruins of mills and mansions, ancient churches, bridges and river crossings are all included along with some interesting stories about some of Boro's noted people. Light refreshments will be served.

Split-the-pot

The winner of this week's split-the-pot, drawn in the Boro Inn, was Martha Doherty, Raheen. The pot was €248. All proceed go to upkeep of the village.

Rural Social Scheme

The Rural Social Scheme provides income support for qualifying farmers and Fishermen, who are in receipt of specified social-welfare payments, in return for 191/2 hours on the community each week. There are two RSS positions available in the area.

To qualify you must be: actively farming or fishing, be in receipt of Farm Assist or Job Seekers Allowance, must apply to the EU Basic Payment Scheme if you do not ordinarily apply for BPS and application can be made to join the Scheme.

Coffee morning

Poulpeasty Women Group (PPWG) are hosting a fundraiser event in Poulpeasty Hall on December 7 at 10 a.m. There will be tea/cofffee, cakes/buns, bric-à-brac, books, as well as a rafffle for a Christmas hamper, beauty voucher, wine and chocolates. Come along for a cuppa and chat and try your luck in the raffle.

Christmas Craft Fair

Coláiste Abbáin are holding their Christmas Craft Fair on Thursday evening, December 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Free Entry to fair - Items on show will be wreaths, candles, fabric/knitted crafts, Christmas decorations/table centrepieces, buns/cakes, gifts and many many more.

This year trading is open to outside traders along with our own student creations. Looking forward to seeing you all there to enjoy the enterprise and creativity that is vibrant in Adamstown. Kiltealy senior citizens party

The Kiltealy senior citizens party takes place on Sunday next, December 2, at 1 p.m. All senior citizens in the area are invited to attend. The committee and helpers have a great afternoon of dinner, drinks, music and entertainment planned. Spot prizes galore too, so come along for a great festive afternoon in Kiltealy Community Hall. Well done to all the volunteers who work so hard to make this party happen and show appreciation to the senior members of the parish who themselves have done so much for the community over the years.

Late Mary Kearns

Deep and widespread regret was occasioned by the passing of Mary Kearns (née Byrne) Ballinlug, Killanne which occurred on Friday, November 16, Deepest sympathy is extended to her daughter Ann and sons Séamus, John, Pat, Declan and Vincent and also to her brother Tom and sisters Alice, Betty and Joan, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces and nephews and extended family.

Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Patrick and by her brothers Hugh, John and Jim. She was an esteemed member of a well known and popular family and will be fondly remembered for her quiet but generous and neighbourly nature and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all.

There was a large and representative attendance at her funeral Mass in Kiltealy Church after which Mary was laid to rest in Kiltealy Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Christmas Fayre

St Colman's Church, Templeshambo will hold their annual Christmas Fayre in the Parish Hall, Templeshambo on Saturday next, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be all the usual attractions including cake stall, country produce, gift stall, bottle stall, tea and raffle. Call in and have a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the morning and maybe pick up some Christmas bargains.

Ballindaggin senior citizens party

The Ballindaggin senior citizens party will be on Sunday, December 9, at 1 p.m. in the Community Hall. The organisers invite you to arrive at the hall at 12.30 p.m. Please come to meet and greet friends old and new and enjoy delicious food and great entertainment in a party atmosphere.

Duffry Rovers AGM

Duffry Rovers GAA club will hold their AGM in Kiltealy Community Hall on Friday, December 7, at 7.30 p.m. All present members are asked to attend. New members welcome. Following the AGM the club will hold their annual five card poker game in the Holy grail at 9.30 p.m. (December 7). Tickets €20 which includes food and refreshments. Admission taken on the door on the night. Prize fund €1,000.

Ballindaggin Community Development

All work is now fully completed on Ballindaggin Community Park with tarmac walking/running track laid last week. The church car park has also been extended and work on this was also completed last week. The hard working committee only began work on the village amenities on March 1 this year and are very pleased with the final results. The committee would like to thank all contributors both volunteers who gave their time and energy and also those who gave valuable contributions to get the work completed. It is indeed a credit to all involved.

Social dancing

Social dancing in Kiltealy Community Hall this Friday, November 30, music on the night will be by the popular Brendan Lee. Refreshments served. Dancing from 9.30 to midnight. Admission €8. Teddy and Cathal Barry will provide the music for December 14.

Split the pot

The winner of Kiltealy NS split-the-pot last week was James Fenlon, who won €187. Many thanks to all for your continued support of our school.
