All your favourite Disney classics came to life at The Riverside Park Hotel recently as the Martina Leacy Dance Academy hosted its annual Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser for St Patrick's Special School and Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. While the event always proves a hit with pupils and parents from St Patrick's and the wider community in general, the addition of the Disney theme this year was said to have made it the best night they've had in the near ten years Martina and her crew have been hosting the event.

Judges came from as far away as Dublin and right across the county to cast their eye over some elaborate dance routines, complete with colourful costume, and they remarked that it was evident that everyone involved had put in a great amount of work in the build-up. A total of 17 couples took to the floor on the night, one even travelling from Cork to take part for the Irish Guide Dogs, and performed a variety of different dances, some doing a mix of three or four ballroom dances.

There were three groups on the night and after much deliberation, the judges decided on Emma Butler and Marie Dunne, Rachel Earle and Reiltin Mates and Lyndsey Walsh and Ben McGovern as the winners.

'It was a brilliant night, the best we've had yet,' said Martina. 'A lot of work went into it this year and we also had a huge amount of help from local businesses in sponsoring trophies and medals. All the kids got to go home with their medals and trophies and that's what makes it for them. I'd also like to thank the Rathnure Panto Group who loaned us some Disney costumes and we had Mickey Mouse and Buzz Lightyear there and that made the night for some of the kids. The Disney theme worked really well and I'd definitely do it again.'

In total the event managed to raise €2,335.50 for each charity - the Guide Dogs and St Patrick's Special School - and Martina was over the moon with this. She wished to reiterate her thanks to everyone who came along on the night, took part, provided sponsorship or lent a hand in any way to the evening's success.
