Tips on how to trace relatives who fought in the battles of World War One were passed on to families in Bunclody library recently.

Expert in military research John Goodman gave a most informative talk in the library on how to find and use military records.

The speaker advised that old photographs can often be a starting point for research into the period, along with heirlooms such as tunic buttons, crests, and cigarette cards.

Among the online sources of information mentioned were the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website www.cwgc.org and the website www.irishgenealogy.ie. Local newspapers sometimes published letters sent home by soldiers.
