Gorey's Empire Youth Initiative heading to Hungarian youth camp
Members of the Empire Youth Initiative in Gorey are heading off to Hungary this summer to help run a youth camp.
Around 12 members of the Gorey group, who are aged between 16 and 21, will travel to Pecs in southern Hungary to work in the camp for a week, as part of a 12 day trip.
They now have to raise funds for the trip, and will be organising several events in the coming months.
Rev Steven Foster of Gorey Methodist Church said that the Empire group had a team from America run similar camps in Gorey in recent years, and the emphasis now is on young locals going abroad to do similar work. They will be involved in sports, games and craft activities, all through English.
He said that the group aims to challenge young people in different ways to do things for others.
The Empire Youth Initiative runs a drop in evening every second Saturday in Gorey Methodist Hall from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. for youths from 14 upwards. New members welcome.
