Enniscorthy schoolgirl Catherine Brooks is bound for the world famous Crufts dog show in the UK. The teenager from The Shannon has been turning heads in the show ring in partnership with a pup called Jack.

Not yet one year old, the Lakeland terrier has been showing a clean pair of paws to older rivals in competitions around Ireland.

'Catherine and Jack have been on such a fantastic run,' commented Catherine's proud mother Tina Broaders. 'She qualified him for Crufts from a show in Belfast. 'The big event is due to take place in Birmingham during March.

Meanwhile, the young handler has also been making an impact at events with veteran wirehaired fox terrier Tip. Catherine and Tip made national news three years ago when he and kennel mate Bullet were dog-napped from their run in Bellefield. Tip re-appeared a few weeks later on the Ross Road while it was almost a year before Bullet was discovered wandering as a stray in an English housing estate.
