UCD and Trinity fail Junior 1 examinations

JUNIOR 1 League -- Section A: Maybe I put the mockers on Clontarf last week as they lost their unbeaten record at AIL last weekend! Their J1s did manage a win against Bective, however. It was a poor weekend for the Universities as UCD were on the wrong end of an 11-0 defeat to Lansdowne while Trinity remain bottom of the table after St Mary's beat them to earn their second bonus point win in three games at College Park.

Section B -- Pool 1: The last round of games is on this week in phase 1 to determine the make of the groups in phase 2. Barring a few extraordinary results it should be Wesley, 'Stones and Seapoint into the better section with DLSP, Suttonians and Naas in section 2. As expected, both Greystones and Wesley came through their games last week but were made fight all the way by Seapoint and DLSP respectively.

Section B -- Pool 2: It's still all to play for with results going as expected last week. Barnhall would still be favourites to top this one, having beaten Wanderers last weekend. Boyne will do themselves and Terenure a favour if they can beat Navan in Balreask Old. That would commit Navan to the weaker section for phase 2, along with strugglers Wanderers.

J2 -- Pool 1: As expected Lansdowne, Mary's and Belvo are through to phase 2 section A. Lansdowne were the only one of the three in action last weekend and UCD won't have enjoyed that one. It also means Lansdowne top the section on points difference. UCD and CYM finished fourth and fifth respectively and so progress to phase 2 section B.

Pool 2: As expected, Stillorgan and Clontarf make the split into the 'Super 6' having played each other last weekend with 'Tarf emerging victors. DLSP are the big losers having been pipped by Bective, a loss which allows Wesley through to the higher section in phase 2 after the narrowest of wins over Wanderers. So it's Bective, DLSP and Wanderers into the lower section.

The Metro J2 League resumes on Saturday week, November 19, and will run for three successive weekends with December 10 pencilled in for any postponed games. The league will then resume after Christmas on Saturday, January 7. The winners of both sections will receive a pennant and medals while the section A winner will be presented with the Metro J2 League trophy.
