Terenure College boys and Our Lady’s Templeogue girls were the division 1 winners at the recent Leinster Schools U19 Badminton Championships held in Baldoyle.

Playing for Our Lady’s was Irish junior international Kate Frost along with Ellen Kavanagh,  Nora O’Gorman and Laura Curtis. In the round robin competition, they beat Loreto Kilkenny and the High School Rathgar.

For Frost the competition was the perfect warm-up for the Catalunya Junior Open in Spain where she was playing with the Irish team.

In the boys’ division 1, Terenure A had solid wins over Wesley College and Good Counsel to take the title.  In division 2, the six qualifying schools were split into  into two groups, with Terenure B beating Colaiste Mhuire Johnstown and Dundalk Grammar A,  losing only two games out of a possible twelve.

In the second group, De La Salle finished top of the table with wins over St Peter’s Wexford and St Columba’s College Killucan. They lost out in the final to Terenure B.

A total of seven teams had qualified for Division 3 Boys, with Killina PPS  coming out on top  ahead of the De La Salle B team.  Killina PPS also won girls’ division 3, beating St Raphaela’s in the final.

Winners of each division represent Leinster at the All Ireland Schools’ Finals in Gormanston on March 26.
