Your cheatin’ heart...
it's a place we never expected to find Ronan Keating, and in fairness the Boyzone frontman and married father-of-three did seem to love the haunts and hangouts which suited his image as a talented star and devoted family man -- as a star guest on the Late Late Show, as a pop idol on the pages of Hello! magazine regaling the merits of family life, strutting his boyish stuff on stage, or simply chilling out with his glamorous friends in restaurants in Malahide.
So it's no wonder we're all gobsmacked to find Ronan in love cheats' gallery, and now infamous for sneaking behind his former model wife Yvonne's back with one of his backing dancers. It wasn't just a fling and a few sexy texts we're being told, but a seven-month affair. None of us thought he was the type, because Ronan gave a good impression of being happy with his childhood sweetheart and wife of 12 years. His behaviour has caught us all by surprise.
And the demotion from husband and family man to liar and cheat has been swift and cutting. Yet is his good-guy image gone for good or in any way retrievable? And even if Yvonne decides to honour her wedding vows with the singer (it's different when there are children involved), and feels the singer's spirituality and good intentions are more pronounced than his sneaky side, will his fans be so quick to forget? Or like Chris de Burgh, will his off-stage antics forever come to dominate people's thoughts when he appears in public?
While cheating may have various different levels from serial slapper to one-night mistake, all cheaters are generally bunged in together. And Yvonne couldn't possibly have expected her husband and best friend Ronan to be associated with the likes of Sandra Bullock's cheating ex Jesse James, English footballer John Terry, or the golfer who favoured impressionable cocktail waitresses, Tiger Woods.
The question is, will Ronan be in the love cheats' gallery for good, or does he stand a chance of reconciling with his wife and fans?
Jesse James: Sandra Bullock's cheating ex-husband admitted he "threw away" his marriage to the Hollywood actress in an interview with US show Nightline. He said: "I took a pretty amazing life and marriage and threw it away. I think I'm the most hated man in the world now."
Best Actress Oscar winner Bullock was left devastated when husband Jesse was accused of having an 11-month affair with tattoo model Michelle 'Bombshell' McGee. Soon, several other women came forward, claiming to have had affairs with him.
Ashley Cole: Cheryl Cole took back footballer husband Ashley after he had allegedly cheated on her for the first time. However, when fresh affair allegations surfaced, Cheryl changed her mind and split from her husband of three-and-a-half years. He was first accused of infidelity with hairdresser Aimee Walton in 2008. It has also been claimed that explicit pictures of him were sent to glamour model Sonia Wild. And that he had sex with Vicki Gough, a 30-year-old secretary from Liverpool.
John Terry: Footballer Terry lost the England captaincy when he was accused of cheating with a former team mate's ex girlfriend. He's said to have had a secret affair with French model Vanessa Perroncel, who has a toddler son with former Chelsea player Wayne Bridge. To top off his disgrace, his long-suffering wife Toni Poole was friends with Perroncel.
Tiger Woods: The billionaire golfer delivered a "profound apology" in a 300-word statement after news of his indiscretions with cocktail waitresses and nightclub hostesses hit the headlines. He was first linked to New York socialite Rachel Uchitel, then cocktail waitress Jaimee Grubbs. Woods's stunning wife Elin Nordegren has since filed for divorce.
Mark Owen: Take That singer Mark Owen confessed to cheating on his wife Emma Ferguson, with around 10 women before their wedding last November. "I have been an idiot, a dickhead, a knobhead. All of the above and more," Owen said in an interview. "It's about me, my mistakes, nobody else is to blame. I don't know how many girls there were in all. Maybe 10."
David Letterman: American talk show host David Letterman admitted his infidelities on his late-night chat show after becoming the subject of an extortion plot by an angry ex-boyfriend of one of his mistresses. Letterman's live confession came just seven months after he had married his long-time girlfriend Regina Lasko. They have a six-year-old son called Harry.
David Boreanaz: Former Buffy The Vampire Slayer star David Boreanaz recently admitted cheating on his wife. The actor, who's currently starring in the crime drama Bones, admitted he had been unfaithful to his wife Jaime Bergman after one of his former mistresses threatened to sell her story.
Jude Law: After his divorce from Sadie Frost, Jude got engaged to actress Sienna Miller but he strayed and had an affair with his children's nanny. He was recently quoted as saying: "I'm not happy I hurt people, but I'm kind of happy it was on such a public level -- like washing your laundry in public. In a weird way, that's kind of wonderful. I was an idiot. I behaved badly. I made mistakes. Who hasn't?" We're still trying to work out his logic.
