Rick O'Shea lands weekend poetry show

Rick O'Shea

Rick O'Shea has lined up a new weekend show on RTE Radio 1.

The 2FM stalwart is now fronting The Poetry Programme, a show which kicks off on January 24.

O'Shea (inset) will be interviewing contemporary poets from Ireland and all over the world, visiting poetry and spoken word events around the country and celebrating anniversaries in the greater poetry world.

"I'm hoping this will be a programme for people with an interest in poetry who'd like to dig in and find new and established contemporary poets and events that they might want to read more of or turn up at," Rick said.

Performance

On his first show Rick will be speaking to National Poet of Scotland, Liz Lochhead, Stephen James Smith - founder of the Lingo Festival - will give a performance of a Yeats poem and he'll check out Brownbread Mixtape - a performance poetry night.

The programme will run every Saturday evening at 7.30pm - right after The Book Show.

Rick will continue his regular weekday afternoon show on 2fm, instead describing his new slot as "a part-time job I'm taking on at the weekend".
