Fans dash to buy Sex And The City dress

IRISH fashionistas are giving Carrie Bradshaw a run for her money as they clamour to get their hands on a designer dress featured in the Sex And The City 2.

The off-the-shoulder Halston Heritage dress that Sarah Jessica Parker wears in a number of scenes has sold out at Brown Thomas.

Fans flocked to the store after recognising the dress in the movie trailer.

The dresses arrived in the store three months ago, but as the movie's release date approached, sales went through the roof.

In the film, the girls are reported to have ditched their over-the-top fashions -- with their equally outlandish price tags -- and the dress comes in at a near-bargain price of just under €300.

Reports have emerged that the film will address the global recession in order to appeal to mass audiences, and with a dress available at such a reasonable price tag, style worshippers are gearing up for plenty more affordable finds.

The flowing frock is available exclusively in the designer's area of Brown Thomas, where staff are being inundated with questions about how to get their hands on one.

Sales consultants for the line told the Herald that women were clamouring to get their hands on a dress since seeing it in the trailer for the upcoming sequel.

"We've actually sold out of them," a staff member said. "Since people realised that it was in Sex And The City, there has been a lot of interest.

"They sold really well because of the price point when they first came in, but once people knew it was in the movie, they have been really popular."

Although style icon SJP opted to pair her peach dress with a navy head scarf to cope with the sweltering North African heat as they filmed scenes in Morocco -- the more traditional fashionista can let the dress speak for itself without over-accessoring.

While the short peach version of the dress is no longer available, this full-length equivalent can still be scooped up and is tipped to be the next to sell out, and it comes in at €328.

Sarah Jessica Parker is the newly appointed creative director of the special Heritage line and has been sporting a number of Halston dresses in the run up to the worldwide release of the film.

The white V-neck dress she wears in the opening scene of the film is also from the line.

However, this particular one was only available to Irish customers online via fashion website net-a-porter.com.
