Kodaline must have felt nervous covering an Ed Sheeran track, but it seems as if the hitmaker was a fan.

The Dublin band recorded Sing for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge Sessions and said that Ed was impressed with their version.

"It's always weird playing someone else's song but we try to do our own thing," Mark told the Diary.

"The response was amazing, Ed is the mega star that everyone likes at the moment so we chose one of his songs.

"We've met him a few times as well. He said he loved it which was cool - we got his approval anyway," he added.

The band's much anticipated second album, Coming Up For Air is set to launch next week and the band are performing an intimate set in Whelan's to mark the occasion.

"We're a little nervous but very excited, we finished it so quickly but we think we've evolved as a band and if it matches the success of the first album we'd be very happy," Steve said.

The Honest singers have also been nominated for the Irish Song of the Year at the Meteor Choice Music Awards.

"It's pretty incredible, even to be nominated is amazing, I don't know if we'll win it or not but if we did that would be amazing," Mark said.
