Leinster to lose Carbery for eight weeks
Leinster's Joey Carbery
Leinster's Joey Carbery will be out of action for anything up to eight weeks with syndesmosis.
He was scheduled for an appointment with a specialist to examine the stability of his ankle on Monday.
It was then the decision was taken to opt for surgery as the best course of action.
The 21-year-old out-half sensation has rocketed into the international rugby arena on the back of unprecedented success for his province since signing his first professional contract late in the summer.
The New Zealand-born Irishman was able to put the finishing touches to some of Jonathan Sexton's best work against the All Blacks in Chicago.
The rise of the Athy man was part of the reason Leinster were confident theycould cope with the loss of Sexton to a hamstring issue. Now, the prodigy has become the victim of an ankle injury that will rule him out of Leinster's three remaining Pool matches in The Champions Cup.
Carbery will be in a race to make a challenge to play for Ireland's in the Six Nations.
