The council has given an update on its plans to refurbish and reopen the Carnegie Library building in Swords.
Swords-based councillor, Brigd Manton (FF) recently asked Fingal County Council: “When the refurbished Carnegie Library will be opened and what the plan is for its use?”
In response, the council issues a written response, stating: “Tender documentation has issued for the proposed refurbishment and extension works to Swords Carnegie Library.
“The proposed works are to refurbish the existing Carnegie Free Library building and construct a new two-storey extension to the north side of the building to facilitate new disabled access WCs and a lift to the first floor to improve universal access.
“It is currently expected that works can commence on site Q3 2022, following completion of the procurement process.”
The council report added: “A nine-month construction period is envisaged for the construction works followed by a fit-out with an expected finish date in Q3 2023.
“A flexible large open space for a range of community/arts rehearsals, performances and meetings is being provided at first floor level.
“The Arts Office will develop a programme for use and management of the space during the construction stage.
“The refurbished ground floor level will provide a reception/office space and collaborative meeting room/office space”
