Fingal County Council has revealed it is in talks with a service provider for the provision of a women’s refuge in Fingal.

Cllr Brigid Manton recently asked the local authority if it had plans to provide such a refuge, particularly in the Swords area. She asked that the council “work with the outside agencies to ensure that their considerable expertise in this area is used to ensure that the best possible design is used to produce the best possible resources for women and children in North Fingal”.

In response, the council issued a written report, stating: “A review of the provision of accommodation for victims of domestic violence was published by Tusla in February 2022.

“This review provides an overview of the existing provision of refuges and safe accommodation in the country. The council is currently liaising with a service provider in relation to the potential for the provision of refuge for the victims of domestic violence and women’s refuge in the north Fingal area.
