A chef caught drink driving has been fined €300 at Swords District Court.

Piotr Nowak (33) pleaded guilty to the offence at Coast Road, Malahide on November 13th, 2020.

The court heard gardaí stopped the defendant shortly before 11pm after they noticed his car driving erratically. They spoke to Nowak, of Grattan Lodge, Dublin 13, and noticed there was a strong smell of alcohol. The accused was arrested and conveyed to a local garda station where a sample gave a reading of 178mg per 100ml of urine.

Defence solicitor Fiona D’Arcy said Nowak admitted he had been drinking as soon as he was stopped by gardaí and was co-operative at all times. She said Nowak works as a chef and the disqualification will cause him huge difficulty getting to and from work.

Judge John O’Leary convicted Nowak and imposed a fine of €300 and a three-year disqualification to take effect from October 1.
