A young musician has thanked the “magical” Late Late Toy Show for making his “dreams come true”.

Michael Moloney appeared on the Toy Show in 2019 when Dermot Kennedy made a surprise appearance to sing his hit, Giants, alongside him.

Since then, Michael has gone from strength to strength, with a Universal Studios record deal and a number of high-profile gigs.

The 16-year-old has recorded in Windmill Lane studios, released two singles, and performed on several big stages, including at Sea Sessions in Bundoran alongside Lyra and Moncrieff.

“It’s been mental really. From the night of the Toy Show, everything blew up, it was crazy. It’s still mind boggling,” he said.

“After Dermot Kennedy came out and surprised me, I said to myself, if I can face that, I can face anything. On the inside I was in total shock.

“The whole RTÉ studio was covered in lights and decorations, it was the most magical experience of my life. After the Toy Show, I feel as if my confidence has shot up immensely.”

Michael recently moved up to Dublin to continue his music after he got the opportunity to attend the Institute of Education.

“I moved to Dublin at the start of September. It was nerve wracking moving out of Ballina,” he said.

“But it’s great, I’ve lots of family here. After the Toy Show I was coming up here a lot to write and record. When I got the opportunity to move to the Institute, I jumped at it.

“Living in Dublin is fun, I miss my mum and my dog Max, but it’s great having the 3Arena and the 3Olympia on my doorstep. I’m at gigs all the time.

“I can’t wait for my gig in the Soundhouse on Eden Quay on December 10. We’ve been working on it for quite a while. It’s really a dream come true. There’ll be a great Christmas buzz as well.”
