Best proud to equal Wood
RORY BEST admits equalling Keith Wood’s record as Ireland’s most capped hooker will be a special occasion.
Best will make his 58th Test appearance in Saturday’s Six Nations clash with Scotland at the Aviva Stadium, elevating him alongside one of the greats of Irish rugby.
The clash with the Scots has added significance for Best as it will be the first time he has led Ireland in a match against major opposition.
“It will be a special day because I grew up watching Keith play,” the 29-year-old said.
“He was a special player so to reach the milestone he set means you must be doing something right.
“It will be a great day, but more important is our performance and result.
“Scotland have been going very well. They’re dangerous and we’ll have to be on the money.”
Keith Earls (groin), Donncha O’Callaghan (ankle), Sean O’Brien (foot) and Jonathan Sexton (foot) failed to train yesterday.
