Sparks set to battle for All-Ireland glory

Basketball

All eyes will be on Drogheda Sparks when the talented squad wrap up their season by taking part in the Under-16 All-Ireland Club Championships at Gormanston College sports complex.

Teams from all 32 counties will be competing in the huge tournament and Sparks begin their quest for the trophy at midday on Saturday when they take on Andersonstown of Belfast on court one, followed by a game against Clare at 3.45pm. Their final pool game is against one of the Mayo teams at 7.30pm.

The top two teams go on to Sunday's semi-finals and it's a real test of skill, stamina and team depth as coaches Gar MacCriosta and Karen Lynch juggle the players to get the best out of them.

It's also Sparks' chance to push on after their disappointing loss in the North East Top 4 competition three weeks ago, and no doubt they will feel they have something to prove.
