O'NEILLS of Duleek retained their hold on the Grimes Cup on Friday night when defeating a game and resilient Dalys (Donore), in what was one of the better finals of recent times.

Held in the Morning Star in Tullyallen, a very good crowd attended and gave both teams plenty of encouragement throughout, in what was a typical local derby in every sense of the word.

O'Neills were ahead from early on and looked like they might draw away for an very comfortable win, but Dalys dug in and fought back to level matters on two occasions at 4-4 and 5-5.

However, O'Neills edged ahead again when Keith Rooney outpointed Colm Smith, and they secured victory in fine style courtesy of veteran Bob Hanratty.

Afterwards, Duleek & District League chairman Kevin Campbell made the various presentations and thanked both teams for a great final and great sportsmanship, and paid tribute to the host venue and supporters.
