Duleek racing

NO better venue than Duleek could have been selected for the running of the Champion Open Dog Puppy Stake, and once again Mr Joe Owens and his hardworking committee are to be congratulated on the success which marked their efforts at Downstown.

The card looked rather heavy, but from the first beat at McKeever's there was never the slightest doubt about finishing in good time.

Hares came to hand as rapidly as we wanted them and these certainly lived up to the Duleek reputation, most of the trials being long drawn out enough for anything, and several times during the day we saw the lead beaten.

Crisis at exchange

A number of telephonists at Drogheda exchange yesterday refused to deal with any calls other than emergencies after a fault in the subscribers trunk dial service left them inundated with calls

About 19 telephonists took action when a trunk service fault occurred due to a technical fault in the cable linking Drogheda and Dublin.

Inundated with calls the telephonists withdrew service from 12.15 pm. They agreed only to take emergency calls. The fault was then repaired and normal working resumed shortly after 4 pm.
