A GREAT exhibition of courage, skill and comradeship was shown as Drogheda Boxing Club held a non-decision exhibition show together with Ardee BC, Whitechurch BC and Collon BC.

The show proved to be a great success, with a total of 40 boxers entering the ring and some standout performances from Drogheda talents Michael Maughan and Alanna Hughes who received the best male/female boxer accolades.

Michael Maughan boxed against the more experienced Kian Gill from Whitechurch BC in the 40kg category and this proved to be no challenge for the local youngster who showed skill and technique way beyond his years.

Alanna Hughes entered the ring for her very first bout, boxing at 42kg against Maria Mongon from Whitechurch. Both young girls put on a brave and intense battle for spectators, with Alanna using her solid jab to keep Maria out of range.

Coaches Joe Leonard, Tommy Murphy, David Thornton, Phillip Owens and Michaela Stowe are now preparing the girls in the club for this month's Leinster Championships in Athy.
