Medals galore

ONE of the last track & field events for 2013 was hosted recently hosted by Ardee & District and Boyne AC once again rose to the challenge at the Boys School venue.

The Drogheda-based club scooped several medals and there were some great performances from each and every athlete who competed.

The day began well for Boyne with a double gold from newcomer Sarah Meite in the U-9 60 and 200m sprints. In the U-9 boys 60m Adam Byrne came second and Neil Culhane third. In the U-10 Girls 100m Anna Faulkner was second in her heat, while in the U-10 Boys events Tiernan Rowley won the Turbo Javelin and took bronze in his 200m.

The U-11 Boys were next to compete and here Calum Sheedy continued his successful track & field season with a silver in his 100m and gold in his 800m. Jack Carolan took bronze in the 800m and moving up in age, the nine-year-old took the bronze in the U-12 Long Jump. Clubmate Tadgh Reilly finished in bronze position in the U-11 Turbo Javelin.

In the U-12 girls 100m Ciara Reilly ran a superb race to take the silver medal, while in the boys events Tom Cummins medalled in all his events, finishing first in the long jump and 100m and 2nd in the 800m. Harry Carolan ran a fine race to finish second in the U-13 100m and moved up in age to finish second in the U-14 Long Jump.

Elsewhere in the U-14 boys events Rurcan O Gibne took gold in his 800m and silver in his 100m and Lorcan Hughes took silver in the 800m and bronze in his 100m. Eva Cummins ran well to finish second in her U-14 800m and also took bronze in the Long Jump.

In the U-15 Girls events, Zoe Shiels finished first in her 100m and 3rd in her Shot put, while, in the boys events Max Flannery took gold in both his 100m and Shot.

Jamie Shiels took gold in the Boys U-16 100m and silver in the 800, while reversing the roles clubmate Oisin O Gibne took silver in the 100m and gold in the 800.

As the day drew to a close, the ever exciting relays took place, with a gold for Boyne in the U-9s, a bronze in the U-11, a silver and bronze in the U-13s and a gold in the U-15 relay.
