St Fechins return to play could not have gone better with a win over St Brides securing them a place in the Paddy Sheelan Cup Final against county champions Newtown Blues.

In a match where penalties played a vital role in St Fechins final tally, the Knockbridge side were first out of the blocks after 20 seconds with a fine point from play.

Fechins Ryan Walsh responded with a point but the Knockbridge men dominated proceedings from here on with five unanswered points. Emmet Kirk, Conaill Devin (free), Sean Marry (2) and Patrick Reilly to lead 0-6 to 0-1 on 20 minutes.

After the water break St Fechins found their scoring boots and clocked up four points from play, two from Ronan Holcroft, and one each from Eoghan Duffy and Ryan Walsh.

Further points from Walsh and Holcroft saw the Fechins cut the gap to 0-8 to 0-7

But there was more drama to come before the half time whistle when Jamie McDonnell was fouled and Ronan Holcroft stepped up to take the penalty, his first effort went wide but the penalty had to be retaken after addition personel were moved from behind the goal and Holcroft made no mistake the second time giving the Fechins the lead for the first time.

The Brides rallied at the start of the second half and scores from Reilly, Marry and Stephen Hoey helped them lead by two with ten minutes remaining.

Disaster struck for the Knockbridge men when the Fechins were awarded a second penalty on 53 minutes and Holcroft found the back of the net.

Holcroft added another point almost immediately to put two between the sides and late scores from Eoghan Hackett and Michael Briscoe sealed victory for the hosts.
