Furze hit by goals blitz

AFTER conceding four opening-half goals Seneschalstown gave themselves little chance of success in the Ladies Leinster SFC Final at Clane.

Fiona Mahon scored three of their first-half points from placed balls, while Lizzy Doran and Stephanie Byrne were also on the mark, but it was Sarsfields who held a clear-cut lead at the break, 4-5 to 0-5. The Laois champions notched their first goal after 12 minutes and the Yellow Furze girls were blitzed by three further goals in a six-minute spell.

Seneschalstown fared much better in the second half and Mahon was outstanding as she took her points tally to nine.

SENESCHALSTOWN: L Mullen; K Commons, P Sheridan, A McAdam; S Hickey, L Doran 0-2, O Sheridan; G Nulty, F Mahon 0-9 (7f); A Carolan, L McKeever 0-1, S Grimes; S Byrne 0-1, A Gilsenan, E McGrane. Subs: S Fitzgerald for Carolan, N Mullen for Commons, R Commons for Doran, A Sheehy for Gilsenan, A Taaffe for Hickey.
