Unique link up with day care

ARDEE'S mums got the perfect pampering recently - with a day long outing.

The Old School House Preschool children from Ballapousta and their mothers hit the town of Ardee for a special Mothers Day Treat.

Aishling Silke from the schooI got inspiration for the idea from the women in business network meeting last month.

'That's where I met up with Claire from Puddleducks coffee and craft shop and Lily from Culog. I thought the mothers would love a little treat from Culog where Lily works on relaxing people using a variety of techniques and Puddleducks serves the tastiest scones and jam to die for.'

'While we were organising this we were contacted by Anne Fitzpatrick from DIT College Mountjoy Square and asked if we would be willing to pilot some work involving mixing the generations young and old. I made my way to Ardee Day Care Centre and met up with Liam the manager of the setting who was just as enthusiastic as ourselves to get this initiative up and running.'

The day began in Supervalu and ended with a great outing to the daycare centre.

'We all met up at Supervalu at 9.30am and to our surprise the management of Supervalu gave us a tasty gingerbread man for our preschoolers. We then made our way to Culog where the children sent their mums upstairs to Lily and they were treated to some tai chi , and some facial and hand massage,' stated Aishling.

Puddleducks followed before a trip to the centre for older people in the heart of the town. 'After lunch the children were joined by some of the clients of the centre and together they worked on some flower arrangements. They then presented these arrangements to their mammies and finished it off by singing two lovely songs specially for their mothers.'

'This was a wonderful day , it really is what community is all about , we had local businesses supporting each other and we had two community groups come together where the elderly shared their knowledge of flower arranging and the children shared their fun and enthusiasm to learn.

A really big thank you to Liam from Ardee Day Care Centre, Claire from Puddleducks , Lily from Culog and the management from Supervalu who gave of their time to make this day possible and of course a special word of thanks to all our mothers for coming out in force,' Aishling added.
