Top RTE role for ex-rugby star
RTE has appointed former Gormanston native Aidan McCullen as head of Innovation Partnerships and Funding in the national broadcaster's digital division.
He will be responsible for advancing partnerships to drive Innovative Initiatives with the aim of achieving a more open RTE, including securing funding streams to continue the digitisation of RTE's extensive archive collections.
As part of his role Aidan will also collaborate with RTE's radio division to build on its extensive digital growth and support the achievement of its digital goals.
Prior to joining RTE, Aidan was Director of Digital and Innovation at the Communicorp Group and previously CEO of Communicorp Digital, responsible for the digital growth and monetisation of Newstalk, Today FM and 98 FM, among others.
He was recently appointed board director of the Irish Internet Association.
A former professional rugby player, he was capped for Ireland and played for Leinster, Toulouse and London Irish, during a 10 year playing career.
Aidan was educated at Whitcross NS Julianstown, Castleknock College, and Trinity College Dublin, graduating with an honours degree in French and German.
He also attended Cologne University in Germany and was later conferred with a Post Graduate business degree by the UCD Smurfit Business School.
Aidan is a son of Gormanston native, Dr. John McCullen, the former Phoenix Park based, Chief Parks Superintendent with the Office Of Public Works (OPW), and his wife Pauline, nee Campbell,Tenure.
He is a nephew of former Drogheda Independent Deputy Editor Jim McCullen, and Pat McCullen of the former Drogheda Garden Centre.
