The genius of Ciaran Dunlevy strikes again

Hubert Murphy

The genius of Ciaran Dunlevy struck again during the Fleadh when he turned Marie Walsh's window into a thing of beauty.

Ciaran was asked to come up with something special and he certainly did - painting an image of Hazel, Lady Lavery, whose likeness appeared on banknotes of Ireland for much of the 20th century.

It took him a day to do the job and he admitted he was pleased with it and the challenges it brought.

'She is a familiar face, but I wanted to do something different,' he stated. So he designed it in a stainglass style, adding to the impact.

'In truth, I would love to work in stainglass at some stage,' he stated.

The image certainly drew great attention and when the artist popped along on Friday evening for a photoshoot, he got great applause for his effort.

'It was designed to light up at night and that was also nice.'

Long after the Fleadh has gone, Ciaran's work of art is likely to attract lots of people to Marie's place on Dominick Street.
