Star athlete to give talk at St Mary's school
St. Mary's Parish Primary School in conjunction with their healthy lifestyle campaign are hosting an evening with David Gillick at their school in Bryanstown on Monday March 11th at 8pm.
The evening will involve David talking about all things nutrition, exercise and mental health and will be followed my a Q & A. The event is open to all parents but the school would also like to invite members of local sports, community and youth groups to attend.
This is a free event kindly sponsored by St. Mary's Parish Primary School Parents Association so why not come along to what promises to me a very enjoyable and informative evening.
During his career David competed in all major track and field championships the world over (including the Beijing Olympics in 2008) and lived and trained in numerous countries including the UK, USA and Australia. He has run the 400m inside 44 seconds and made a global sprint final in Berlin in 2009. His finest achievement was probably winning the European 400m Indoor Championship in Madrid in 2007, Ireland's first sprint medal in 76 years.
After stepping away from the track David has gone from full time corporate employment to the celebrity MasterChef kitchen pursuing his passions for fitness, food and promoting a healthy lifestyle. He has written two bestselling books, David Gillick's Kitchen and more recently Back On Track, David's 4 Part Plan to a Healthy Lifestyle, in which he talks openly and honestly about his struggles with mental health and the strategies he used to cope.
David is a regular contributor to shows like The Six O'Clock Show, podcasts and mental health forums promoting a healthy lifestyle in both the workplace and at home. He is also a member of the Olympic Federation of Ireland's Athlete Commission along with the High Performance Committee of Athletics Ireland.
