Shock at death of Drogheda club rider

Cyclist Sean Lynch is mourned following crash in Wexford race

Tributes have been paid to Drogheda Wheelers cyclist Sean Lynch following his tragic death last week.

He was racing with the team in Wexford two weeks ago when he crashed.

He was rushed to hospital, but sadly passed away last Thursday.

'It is with great sadness that Drogheda Wheelers Cycling Club announce the untimely death of its member, Sean Lynch following a tragic accident.

'The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all the medical staff who cared for Sean following the accident and expresses its gratitude to Wexford Wheelers Cycling Club for its support during this difficult time.

'Drogheda Wheelers would like to extend its sincere sympathies to the Lynch Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam,' a club statement remarked.

Club chairman Andrew Watters described him as a great individual who was very popular in the racing world and was known all over the country.

He said the club was shocked and saddened by his loss and he sent his condolences to the rider's family.

Sean will be very sadly missed by his loving wife Olivia, parents Lilly and Nicky, brothers Michael, Paul, Colm and Stephen, sisters Rose, Karen and Sarah, sister in law Niamh, father in law Michael, mother in law Margaret, brother in law Robert, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, club mates, cycle companions and a large circle of friends.

His Funeral Mass is on Tuesday morning at 11am in The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Rathfeigh. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
