A local councillor says Louth County Council are to implement the 3 tonne weight restriction on Sean O'Carroll Street in Ardee - after stating that they wouldn't.

The restriction was passed by the council in 2015 but was never enforced because of complaints that there were no alternative routes for heavy vehicles to use.

Cllr Jim Tenanty asked the question again at the area council meeting, saying people on the street had been 'prisoners in their own homes' in recent months after the street was closed for works for three and a half months.

The council replied in writing that traffic turning movements had been examined and no alternative route could be found. meaning that the ban couldn't be implemented.

But Cllr Tenanty spoke with an engineer at last week's meeting and said that the fact there had been no objections to the recent road closure, the council would now 'implement' the ban on the road.
